Contemplative Mind

The Association for Contemplative Mind in Higher Education (ACMHE) is associated with The Center for Contemplative Mind, directed by Arthur Zajonc, a professor of physics at Amherst College. Both sites provide useful information about how to foster contemplation and contemplative practices in higher education.  William James (Principles of Psychology) observed that,

“The faculty of bringing back a wandering attention, over and over again, is the very root of judgment, character and will.” He believed an education that taught people to improve such capacities would be ideal, but difficult to achieve.  These resources provide a good deal of practical advice, including online exercises and illustrations, that provide useful guidelines for teaching and employing contemplative practices in the academy.
